Just four years ago, Gary and I made the decision to take the children out of mainstream education and for me to educate them at home. It was a HUGE decision at the time, but one that I've had little occasion to regret.
After the first little while at home with the children, I began to write about our experience, from the start, as much for my own interest as for, perhaps one day, others' interest. The links below will take you to the various "chapters" of my work, and set out some of the adventures and
disasters of the early days. I have to confess that I find it quite galvanising reading them again, as it reminds me, amongst the hubbub of daily life, just why I opted for home schooling, and the sort of principles about education that I still have lurking within me (somewhere!).

As part of an active home-ed group in the local community, and running a group for 11+ year olds, my home is constantly filled with hungry children! Many years ago I bought a book called "Common Sense Parenting" in the appendix of which was a recipe for a chocolate cake which has proved extremely popular with friends and children alike! It never lasts very long in our house! Here's the recipe for those who want to give it a go:
