Welcome to our adventures in homeschooling!

Four years ago, Gary, Joe, Hannah and I embarked on a voyage of adventure, excitement, tears, frustrations and, well, the unknown. The children left school, I finished my degree, and Gary and I began the task of educating and feeding their 9 and 8 year old minds.

Four year's on, and many ups and downs later, we are still going. Hannah had a brief foray back into the world of school, but has now returned home, choosing to focus her studies on English Literature, History and Maths; Joe is now preparing to sit his first GCSE exam in ICT, having worked hard on his coursework projects, with two more GCSEs in the pipeline for next year (Biology and Geography).

Our study plans are still as flaky as ever - all best intentions go astray frequently! However it now helps that we are following some programmes with the help of tutors at the National Extension College, along with which comes schedules and deadlines. A mix of their way and ours seems to work quite well!

Have a delve into the website. The children have (more or less) complete control over their pages - it is my hope that they will paint a picture to their readers of the life they lead, the interests they follow, and the manner in which they learn. I will encourage them to maintain a weblog each, so you get an idea of the ups and downs of the homeschooling year. I am also going to endeavour to keep a photographic record of our year, so keep an eye on the family gallery.

Above all, I hope this site gives you an idea of just what homeschooling is all about and what it means to us.
